Rominserv, a contract with a value exceeding USD 27 million USD for modernizing Atyrau Kazakhstan re

Rominserv Kazakhstan, the subsidiary of Rominserv SRL Company– the general contractor of Rompetrol Group, will reconstruct the Atmospheric and Vacuum Distillation Plant (AVD) of Atyrau Refinery in Kazakhstan, the value of the contract exceeding USD 27 million.

„Based upon the experience and the expertise gained by Rominserv SRL in modernizing the refineries of Rompetrol Group – Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploieşti, Rominserv Kazakhstan subsidiary was appointed the winning company of a bid into which 17 domestic and foreign companies participated. We estimate that the total value of contracts adjudicated by Rominserv in Kazakhstan amounts to approximately USD 60 million up to the end of November”, Tudorel Dumitraşcu, the manager of the Division of International Activities of Rominserv, states.

The modernizing works of the plant started at the end of October, and their completion deadline is estimated at the end of next year.

The project is part of the modernizing program of Atyrau Refinery, an important asset of KazMunaiGas, aiming both to increase the annual processing capacity from 3.5 million to 5 million tones of crude oil, and to improve the quality of manufactured fuels, in compliance with the international quality standards.

The Atmospheric and Vacuum Distillation Plant (AVD) assures the manufacture of light products (gasoline, diesel fuel or gas) through the atmospheric and vacuum distillation of crude oil.

Rominserv estimates to reach a turnover of more than USD 146 million for this year, decreasing by approximately 22% as compared to the turnover reached last year, based upon a significant decrease of the number and value of industrial projects.

About Atyrau – Kazakhstan Refinery

Atyrau Refinery, located in the West area of Kazakhstan, where the Ural River flows into the Caspian Sea, is one of the three major crude oil processing units in the country, the other two units being located in Pavlodar, in the Western area, and in Shymkent, in the Southern area. In 2008, all these three refineries processed approximately 14 million tones of crude oil.

Atyrau Refinery was commissioned in the year 1945, following a two years construction process, the works having been carried on during the Second World War. The refinery project was developed by „Badger and Sons” American Company, and its initial processing capacity was up to 800,000 tones per year.

Atyrau, comparing to the refineries in Pavlodar and Shymkent, has been processing  crude oil of Kazakhstan exclusively. It is located close to the richest oil fields in the country, such as Tengiz, Zhanazhol or Uzen.
